Migration is one of major ways in which communities try to cope with crisis, be it climate, economic or state or communal violence. The intention behind this review is to map the issues faced by coastal communities through migration. Here we plan to put together a picture of distress migration in the Indian Ocean region through secondary literature with focus on the pandemic. This overview will help us understand the present crisis but also help draw linkages with the past distresses that exacerbated the present crisis. This will help us plan future research
